A 12-day journey through the full depth of Ceylon’s tea heritage: the first plantation estate at Loolkandura, the working estates and planter-led walks of Nuwara Eliya, the world-famous scenic train to Ella, the wildlife dimension at Udawalawe, and the south coast finish. Itinerary

Arrival - Colombo

Private transfer to a luxury boutique hotel in Colombo. Evening stroll along Galle Face Green or rooftop dinner overlooking the city and harbour.

 

 

Colombo to Kandy

Scenic drive to Kandy. Check-in at a boutique colonial or heritage hotel. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic for the afternoon puja ceremony. Evening lakeside walk or optional cultural performance.

 

 

Kandy - Botanical Gardens and Artisan Workshops

Morning visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya. Afternoon at private artisan workshops with a focus on the relationship between Kandyan craft traditions and the tea estate culture that funded them. Tea tasting or spice garden experience to close the afternoon.

 

 

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya via Loolkandura

Scenic drive into the hill country with a diversion to the Loolkandura Estate, the first tea plantation in Sri Lanka, established by James Taylor in 1867 and the origin of Ceylon’s entire tea industry. Arrive in Nuwara Eliya and check-in at a luxury colonial-style tea bungalow. Evening lakeside walk at Gregory Lake.

 

 

Nuwara Eliya - Estate Walk and Tea Blending

A full day in the estate landscape: a guided plantation walk led by a tea planter who explains cultivation and picking techniques from the inside, a curated tea tasting session, and an optional private tea blending session for those who want to create their own blend from the estate’s components. Afternoon at leisure or gentle cycling on estate paths.

 

 

Nuwara Eliya to Ella by Scenic Train

Board the iconic train from Nanu Oya station to Ella through the most photographically celebrated section of the Sri Lankan highland railway. Evening stroll to the Nine Arches Bridge as the last light catches the stone viaduct above the jungle.

 

 

Ella - Peaks, Zip-Lines, and Tea Estate Relaxation

Morning hike to Little Adam’s Peak for the valley panorama. Optional zip-lining or ATV through the surrounding tea trails. Evening spa or quiet estate relaxation for those who want a contrast to the morning’s activity.

 

 

Ella to Udawalawe via Tea Estate Stops

Drive south from the highlands toward Udawalawe with stops at tea estates, small waterfalls, and roadside cafes that mark the transition from the cool green highlands to the warm dry zone. Overnight in Udawalawe.

 

 

Udawalawe - Private Elephant Safari

A private safari in Udawalawe National Park for elephant observation in the open grassland setting where herds of 50 to 100 animals are visible throughout the morning. Overnight at a luxury safari lodge.

 

 

Udawalawe to South Coast

Drive to the southern coastline and check-in at a beachfront luxury resort near Tangalle or Mirissa. Afternoon on pristine beaches with sunset cocktails and the Indian Ocean as the day’s closing image.

 

 

South Coast - Whale Watching and Beach Day

Optional whale watching at Mirissa if the season is right, with blue whale encounters in the deep offshore waters being the primary objective. Beachside relaxation, yoga, or a private coastal cooking class focusing on the seafood that defines the south coast’s culinary character.

 

 

South Coast to Colombo - Departure

Scenic drive back to Colombo with optional stops at artisan shops along the southern coast. Overnight stay or direct transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for departure.
